I was first introduced to yoga ten years ago in my search to heal my
body and this lead to an increasing desire to share the fruits of my
practice with others. I think what delights me most about teaching is
being an objective witness to other's inner insights, self-discoveries
and divinity. Watching their expansion from inner to outer expressions
of confidence or vulnerability, equally courageous. The student –
teacher relationship is forever changing and re-defining itself, yet it
never goes out of style. Traditionally and at present we yearn for this
dynamic play to uproot our habits, look deeply within and inspire us to
reach. Yoga has given me the opportunity to learn from teachers who
aspire to delve into whatever it takes to live with compassion and
integrity.
Ashtanga Yoga was my first love...it has a powerful way of lighting
your hair on fire and softening in the glow of exertion. As my Ashtanga
teacher, Jaye Martin, was moving into Anusara Yoga®...I naturally
followed with an open heart. When I met Christina Sell my whole
experience of what I thought yoga was changed and she continues to
teach me a true path of the heart on and off the mat. John Friend,
founder of Anusara Yoga, couples the splendor of light with the dark
edgy cracks, providing me with the tools of transformation
in-and-through the body. The practice of Anusara Yoga and tantric
philosophy keeps me alert and present to what is true. There is a
Buddhist saying that goes something like "practice as if your hair is
on fire" but my root Guru, Lalitha, to whom I owe my eternal gratitude
says, "practice because your hair is on fire." As I walk and often
stumble upon this fiery path... yoga is a way for me to keep showing
up.
