Getting Started
The first step on your journey toward this profound new yoga experience is to choose which studio and which class is suitable for your needs.
Yoga is not a one-size-fits-all approach, as there are a number of different styles and classes to fit a number of different goals and personalities.
At Yoga Pod Austin, we offer more than 75 yoga classes per week in a welcoming, family-like setting. Our overarching mission is to harbor a vibrant community of yogis who come from all different backgrounds and experience levels to help them transform their body, elevate their mind, and open their heart.
One of the best yoga classes for beginners is our podBASICS class, which helps you to create a solid foundation. This beginner’s yoga class moves slowly, allowing you the time to explore each position, your body, and your breath as you flow.

What To Bring
If you’re brand new to the practice, you may not have all of the proper equipment just yet. Each class will require you to have a yoga mat, clothes that stretch as you move, and it would also be beneficial to have a towel by your side.
However, if you aren’t ready to fully commit to purchasing a mat of your own, fear not — our Austin yoga studio offers mat rentals, towel rentals, and other accessories in case you don’t have what you need.
We also encourage you to bring a water bottle and proper yoga attire — typically athletic clothing that isn’t too loose but also won’t restrict your movement whatsoever. Above all, your clothing should be comfortable and relaxing so that you can focus more on your practice than on your outfit.
And another thing — no socks! Yoga is best practiced in bare feet, so come prepared for that as well.
Before Your Class
It might be a good idea to show up to the studio 20-30 minutes before your first class is scheduled. That way, you can take some time to explore your new yoga home, introduce yourself to the teacher (and tell them it’s your first time), and pick the spot in which you feel most comfortable.
Be sure that you are well hydrated and nourished prior to your class, but don’t go overboard — you don’t want to be the person who has to leave the room to go to the bathroom in the middle of the practice.
Explore, Explore, Explore
Your first yoga class will be all about exploration. That means exploring your body, exploring your flexibility, exploring your breath, and exploring yoga as a whole.
Your yoga teacher is there to guide and encourage you throughout the process, but don’t be afraid to slow down and move at your own pace. Remember, yoga is a judgement-free zone, so it’s best to move slowly, be comfortable, and practice proper technique than to rush and do things incorrectly.
Have An Open Mind
Having an open mind is part of what yoga is all about. After all, that is part of our mission here at Yoga Pod Austin.
Yoga is a truly transformative experience, so long as you allow it to be. It would be our absolute pleasure to help you experience the power of yoga for yourself.
