BIPOC & LGBTQIA+ Yoga Teacher Training Scholarship

Here at Yoga Pod we offer scholarships for traditionally underserved communities and those who may be experiencing financial hardship. We recognize that structural and institutional racism exists in the yoga, fitness, and wellness community. We know that financial barriers are a contributing factor in maintaining the status quo. While scholarships are not a new offering at Yoga Pod, we believe that a BIPOC & LGTQBIA+ specific scholarship is a necessary next step toward increasing the diversity and inclusivity of our teachers and our trainings at Yoga Pod and beyond.

We offer 2 scholarships per Teacher Training program, 1) BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) or other non-dominant identities/traditionally underrepresented groups such as LGBTQIA+ scholarship & 2) Financial hardship.

Applicants will be notified of acceptance 3 weeks prior to the start of the training program, however the application will stay open indefinitely.

I decided to listen to my heart and commit to Yoga Pod’s 200 hour yoga teacher training just 2 weeks before it started. With a deep love for yoga after practicing for 15 years, becoming a yoga teacher was something I had wanted to do for quite a long time. In the months leading up to my decision, everything seemed like a message to take this on in order to align my thoughts, words and actions. Though completely new to Yoga Pod, I attended an information session held by Daisy and knew I needed to be part of the diverse group of teacher trainees she described were already signed up. I met Ellie, felt compelled to speak from my heart, and was eased by her invitation to set down the teacher training stone on my path. One of the most difficult parts of this decision was to spend the time in teacher training away from my husband and four-year-old daughter, but they demonstrated more support than I could have ever imagined. I am forever grateful to them.

The teacher training itself was a beautiful experience full of surprises and profound realizations. I was thrilled to be exposed to so many incredible teachers and to get to know my fellow teacher trainees, which happened pretty quickly in the first session with everyone sharing why they were there. Not only do I now have a much better grasp of anatomy, alignment and safety, I was changed at the core with the training’s exposure to yoga history and philosophy. Our teachers introduced several lineages and viewpoints from the stance that there are Many Paths, One Truth — all ideas were welcome. As a result, I began to identify not with my thoughts or body but with a loving awareness of it all.

None of us could ever have imagined something like COVID-19 occurring during teacher training. I am forever grateful to Alex and Rachel for transitioning our training online so gracefully. Though we trainees found ourselves scattered across the country, training was a source of connection and hope. It is incredible to see how close this group became, even in these circumstances.

I am so excited to share online yoga offerings with the tools we learned with the need to adapt. The thought of teaching in-person soon fills me with joy. Thank you to my family, teacher training instructors, and fellow trainees!
